Cafe in Egypt

FILM SUMMARY

Discover the Orient through the exotic history of literary and political cafes : places full of life, distractions, meetings, filled with the smoke of hookahs, and yesterday often forbidden to women...

This cafe society has evolved, what has become of it today?

This film is both a sociological and historical piece, and a trip through the Orient; shot in Tunis (Tunisia), Cairo (Egypt), Damascus (Syria) and Istanbul (Turquey).
It is composed of many film archives, excerpts from Egyptian feature films, along with interviews with key figures such as :

* Egyptian writer Gamal El Ghitany,

* French writer Daniel Rondeau,

* Egyptian film director Tawfik Saleh.
